I know I should be telling you why you should invest in real estate around here but I’m not sure that’s what I feel like talking about, I however hope I don’t get fired. What I really want to gist you about is everything I know about Lekki, hopefully, you’ll find something in here to make you like it.
You see, to get the most out of your Lekki experience, you’ll need to know where to go and what to do and maybe a friend like me to give you easy pointers. For those who know Lekki well, you’ll definitely gerrit, for others, I hope that you enjoy my little Lekki summary.
Lekki is about the fastest-growing, most sought-after, most desirable areas of Lagos to live in. It’s a young, dynamic city, and the best location for businesses and investments. It has been dubbed the Silicon Valley of Nigeria, as it has the highest concentration of tech businesses and start-ups in the country. Yes, most of your tech bros and babes live here!
When I randomly asked friends and young people about Lekki, some of the words used to describe were; a place to grow yourself and business because of the level of opportunities and the calibre of people, sweet nightlife, luxury. It is mostly loved for the general safety and cleanliness, options of places to relax. Despite the traffic which recently increased due to population and lack of many alternative routes, the relatively high cost of living, problems of drainage, need for water treatment to get clean water, it’s safe to say most are still Team Lekki.
Lekki is also home to some of the most luxurious real estate in the country, talk of the most prestigious residential estates in Lagos and I can promise at least 75% of them will have their addresses ending in “Lekki, Lagos’’. The location bodies the Lagos tagline, Eko for show. Most of your favourite celebrities and politicians live and breathe around here, so you know what to do if you really want to chill with the big boys.
When it comes to chill spots; entertainment, adventure, sports, relaxation etc, then you’ll enjoy the easy access to beaches and resorts, you could enjoy adventure on the Long Canopy Walk in Lekki Conservation Centre, you have options of lounges, clubs (stripped and unstripped *winks*), you’re looking for restaurants whose names or menus you cannot conveniently read out loudly, for the days you are in the mood for Salsa, Karaoke, Silent disco, or just a long drive, there are always options of places to shop from, malls, family fun spots, cinemas, the gyms and churches are also on some high-class level.
Over the past few years, the value of real estate in Lekki has appreciated significantly, which has led to higher returns than what’s obtainable with most other investments. The influx of young people and businesses, resulting in high demands for purchase, rent (commercial, residential), and short lets (serviced apartments/Airbnb), have had a fine role to play here. Our struggling economy as a country has made investment in Lekki even more attractive to Nigerians earning in “stronger currencies” and foreign investors.
These and more have made Lekki one of the most sought-after real estate investment destinations in Africa, with investors from around the world clamouring to purchase property in the area. Little wonder it is home to many Real Estate companies.
In a nutshell, L is for Lekki as it is for Luxury. It is “Lagos abroad” or what I call, “abroad life in Lagos”. It is safe to say that once you find the right property, your money is good here. You should totally speak to one of my colleagues for best deals!
